“I have an oven, stove, refrigerator, bathroom, and double the furniture since I do not have a roommate. In NYU housing, you also have access to libraries and the gym.”

What are the Facilities Like?
“I am in a suite that has 3 double bedrooms (6 girls in total), a kitchen (with stove, fridge, etc), a living room with a kitchen table and a couch, and two bathrooms with two toilets and one stand alone shower and one bathtub with a shower head. The rooms are basic dorm style rooms with desks, chairs, and twin size beds. There is AC. There is no wireless, but the internet works fine with the Ethernet cord. Cable TV is available if you bring a TV. Residents also get to use the NYU gym, called Palladium, for the summer.”

What are the facilities like?
“There are many different options for EHS. They have several buildings across the city. The set-up of the rooms and type (suite, studio, double, large double, single etc) varies with each building. The prices vary. I stay in St. George Weller Building in Brooklyn Heights because it was the last thing available at such short notice. It’s around 3,300 for the whole summer (all-inclusive), plus you get a free gym membership. There is a lounge and there are about 14 floors I think in my building. There is an elevator. I live in a double and the rooms are tiny but come with a full bathroom which is great. The kitchen is on every other floor, but I don’t cook so I don’t know how that is.”

What are the Facilities Like?
“Each facility that EHS offers has different room arrangements. At Plimpton, I have my own room that is a part of a suite in which four other girls live and have their own rooms. We share a bathroom, kitchen, and open area that has a kitchen table. The floors are tile, I have my own air conditioning unit, the room comes furnished with a bed, desk with shelves, dresser, and closet-like dresser. Each room in the suite also comes with its own TV/DVD player.”

“They’re Old, and it’s pretty much a dorm with a kitchen and bathroom, but nice to have my own bedroom”

What are the Facilities Like?
It’s in the old New Yorker Hotel on 34th street and 8th ave in the Garment District. The residence includes a gym, laundry room (people have to fight for the small amount of washers/dryers), two restaurants in the hotel (one casual and one formal), security cameras, planned activities, discount broadway and sporting tickets.

“I am living in the St. George Hotel Weller Building in Brooklyn Heights. I live in a standard double room – and it’s pretty much your typical dorm room. There rooms are fully furnished with two twin beds, nightstands, dressers, and desks. It’s nice that we have our own bathroom.

What are the Facilities Like?
“I lived in a two-story apartment style dorm with a kitchen, bathroom and living room. There are 3 singles and 1 double, I lived in the double. Each room has a dresser, desk, closet and twin xl bed (my room had two of all of those things). There is a small gym on my floor. My kitchen came with a fridge, oven, dishwasher, cabinets, and table (no microwave). My living room has two couches and two chairs. Cable costs $80 for the whole summer. There are washing machines and dryers in the basement.”

Commuting from Home

Review 1
Victoria Lee

Where do you commute from?
“Butler, NJ”

How Long Is Your Commute?
I drive 15 minutes to the bus station, take a 30 minute bus ride, and walk from the Port Authority (42nd and 8th) to FOX, which is only about 10 minutes. I stumbled upon the bus by talking to a random person waiting for the train, and had no idea it was an option. Good thing I found it though, because the train would add an extra hour to my commute. I think it’s important to let people know that the commute is extremely easy and this is a great alternative to spending thousands of dollars on housing.

How Much Does Commuting Cost You?
“Free housing. Traveling costs n/a”

Where do you commute from?
“Southbury, CT”

How Long Is Your Commute?
The commute is about 2 hours. It takes a half hour to get to the Brewster train station. Depending upon whether or not I am taking the express train, it takes either 1 hour and 15 minutes or 1 hour and 30 minutes to get from Brewster to Grand Central Station. From Grand Central Station it is about a 10-15 minute walk to FOX. The commute on the train gives me time to get work done or read, and it’s not so bad if you discipline yourself to get to sleep early. However, if I had had the money to spend on NYC housing, I would have gotten a dorm or apartment so I could have gotten a fuller experience of New York and spent more time with other interns outside of work.

How Much Does Commuting Cost You?
It’s $5 a day for parking at the train station and $300 for a monthly unlimited train ticket.
